Report: Ankara sees grain deal alternatives unhealthy
ANKARA, Aug 22 (PRIME) -- Turkey sees alternatives to the grain deal unhealthy and dangerous, newspaper Yeni Safak reported on Tuesday citing sources in the presidential administration.
"After Russia suspended the agreement, Ukraine made various attempts at finding alternative routes. Grain transportation through the Romanian port of Constanta was seen as the first, but according to the presidential sources, a plan excluding Russia is unhealthy," the newspaper reported.
Turkey prioritizes resumption of the deal, the report read.
Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the U.N. coordinated the Black Sea Grain Initiative in July 2022. The agreement encompassed exports of Ukrainian grain and food through the Black Sea ports. Moscow left the deal on July 18, 2023 attributing the decision to the west’s refusal to reconnect Russian Agricultural Bank to SWIFT.
